Gwinnett County is the second most populous county in Georgia with a population of 920,260. It is located in the north central portion of Georgia, and is bordered by Forsyth County, Hall County, Jackson County, Barrow County, Walton County, Rockdale County, DeKalb County, and Fulton County. Gwinnett County was named for Button Gwinnett, one of the signatories of the Declaration of Independence in 1818. The county has a total land area of 430 sq. miles. It has the largest public school system in the state of Georgia. There are 16 cities and towns within Gwinnett County, some of which are also partly located in adjacent counties. Lawrenceville, the county seat of Gwinnett County, is a suburb of Atlanta, with an estimated city population of 30,493. Peachtree Corners is the county's largest city, with an estimated population of 42,773. It is also a suburb of Atlanta, and is bordered to the north and west by the Chattahoochee River. Peachtree Corners is the only one of Atlanta's northern suburbs that was developed as a planned community. It was incorporated as Gwinnett County's 16th city on July 1, 2012. The economy of Peachtree Corners is largely driven by the concentration of planned office parks. In 2016, Comcast Corporation, the largest broadcasting and cable television company in the world by revenue, relocated its Southeast Headquarters to Peachtree Corners.
