Scioto County, on the confluence of the Scioto and Ohio Rivers, was formed from part of Adams County in 1803. Its name was taken from a Native American word for deer hunting. Portsmouth, its only city, is an inland port on the Ohio River and has a population of about 20.000. Scioto County has 4 villages and 16 townships. Across the river in Kentucky lie the counties of Greenup and Lewis. Bordering Ohio counties include Pike on the north, Jackson on the northeast, Lawrence on the southeast, and Adams on the west. Scioto County is heavily forested, especially in Shawnee State Park in the western part of the county and Wayne National Forest in the southeast. Heavy industry that once thrived in Portsmouth has largely shut down, leading to a decline in the county's economy. Leading sectors are now services and health care. Take a look at the categories below for an impressive array of public records, including tax records, property records, and mortgage foreclosure sales. [1]
