General information about Summit County

Population: 547,314
Area: 413 sq. miles
County Seat: Akron
Area Code(s): 330
Time Zone: Eastern

As a mostly urban county, Summit County is Ohio's fourth most populous. It includes 13 cities, 9 villages, and 9 townships. Akron, the largest city and county seat, is the fifth largest city in Ohio. The county takes its name from the highest point on the Ohio and Erie Canal; the highest point in the state is actually in Logan County. Summit County was formed in 1840 from parts of Medina, Portage, and Stark Counties. Today, its boundaries are formed by Medina County on the west, Wayne County on the southwest, Stark County on the south, Portage County on the east, Geauga County on the northeast, and Cuyahoga County on the northwest. Unlike all but one other of Ohio's 88 counties, Summit County is governed by a County Executive and County Council, instead of the more common three County Commissioners. Take a look at the categories below for a multitude of public records and documents, including tax records, recorded documents, and birth and death records. [1]
